As easy as it is to slip into one of our Adirondack chairs and let hours melt away as you watch the cool, blue waters of Penobscot Bay, we suspect that you visit the Inn at Sunrise Point with the intention of exploring Maine. Our state is blessed with pristine and natural beauty, from evergreen forests to rocky saltwater coastline to tranquil lakes and streams. So after you enjoy our fresh hot coffee and gourmet breakfast, experience all the beauty the area has to offer with three great outdoor activities in Maine. We love to help our guests explore!
1. Bike
Bike North Haven: Twelve miles offshore and accessible only by ferry, this picturesque island community boasts about 30 miles of country roads perfect for meandering by bike. The 70-minute ferry ride is part of the adventure, providing stunning views of Rockland Harbor and the Maine coastline. Plan to leave your car on the mainland and rent a bike from Andrew at Sidecountry Sports. His team will carefully outfit you to insure your comfort and safety.
2. Hike
Hike Moose Point State Park: Just north of Belfast near the Searsport townline, this park features accessible hiking trails on even, wooded terrain with panoramic views of Penobscot Bay. The shady, evergreen trails and tidal beaches are popular but not overcrowded, and boast plenty of opportunity to spot local wildflowers and native birds. Hike and explore or simply relax and enjoy the wooded coastline.
3. Climb
Climb Maiden Cliff Trail: Located about three miles beyond the village of Camden, Maiden Cliff Trail offers a slightly more challenging hiking experience. The one mile trail will lead you past a babbling brook and then to a steeper ascent that opens to an open plateau with towering views of Megunticook Lake and beyond. Rest there or explore Camden Hills State Park’s network of trails.
After experiencing one (or more!) of these outdoor activities in Maine, return to find the Adirondacks awaiting! Let us pour you a glass of wine while you enjoy one of our majestic sunsets. Book now!
