Rain Day? Not to worry! There are many indoor activities to enjoy right here at the Inn at Sunrise Point in Lincolnville, Maine and in the surrounding area.
One of our favorite places to visit, rain or shine, is the Farnsworth Art Museum. The Farnsworth, located in Rockland, Maine approximately 12 miles from the Inn at Sunrise Point and is a jewel of an art museum celebrating the role Maine has played in the creation and development of American Art. The Farnsworth Art Museum opened in 1948 and has been drawing people from across Maine and beyond ever since. Its primary attraction—and what we love most about the museum is it’s Wyeth Center which features one of the largest and most impressive collections of work by the Wyeth family members: Andrew, N.C., and Jamie Wyeth, all who are famous artists across the globe. Speaking of the Wyeth family, some of you know that we have an accommodation named the Wyeth Loft (link with https://www.sunrisepoint.com/wyeth-loft.html) here at the inn. Yes, this luxury suit was named after this extremely talented family. In fact, all of our accommodations are named after famous artists who were from, or inspired by, Maine’s beauty.
Another popular destination is the Owls Head Transportation Museum located in Owls Head, Maine about 15 miles from the inn. The Owls Head Transportation Museum is a nonprofit educational organization that has an amazing and very interesting collection of aircraft, ground vehicles, engines, etc. If you are interested in history, methods of transportation, or simply enjoy looking at beautiful old cars and aircrafts the Owls Head Transportation Museum is defiantly worth a visit.
While we would recommend checking out these two museums in particular, many of our guests prefer to relax and enjoy what we have to offer here at our coastal retreat on a rainy day. We have a charming library at the Inn filled with a great selection of books, movies, cd’s, and board games for your enjoyment. . Why not sit in front of the cozy fireplace with a delicious glass of wine from our bar and turn a rain day into another day in paradise?
